Champagne Region Private Cellar Visit: A Guide from Brussels by FFGR Belgium

Brussels to the Champagne region is a 3-hour drive through the Ardennes and the Marne valley. FFGR Belgium coordinates private cellar visits to Moët & Chandon, Ruinart, Dom Pérignon, and the grower-producers — a programme combining private tasting, vineyard access, and Royal Champagne Hotel overnight.

Brussels to Épernay — the capital of the Champagne appellation — is 278 kilometres on the A4/E411. The drive, which passes through the Belgian Ardennes and into the Champagne chalk hills, takes approximately 2 hours 45 minutes in a chauffeur vehicle.

For clients making this journey for private cellar visits, the experience represents the most direct access to the world's most prestigious sparkling wine region outside of France itself.

**The Grandes Maisons — Private Visit Protocol**

The large Champagne houses — Moët & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot, Ruinart, Krug, Pol Roger, Louis Roederer, Bollinger — all offer some level of private visitor experience beyond their standard tours. FFGR Belgium coordinates the elevated level:

**Ruinart** is the oldest Champagne house (1729) and offers a private access to the crayères — UNESCO-listed underground chalk cellars — with their head of international relations. This visit is not available to the public.

**Krug** offers "Krug Stories" format private visits with a maître de cave. For clients with a serious Krug relationship (or for purchases of specific magnitude), the Chef de Cave visit is possible.

**Moët & Chandon / Dom Pérignon** — separated visits to both houses in Épernay are possible on the same day. Dom Pérignon's cellar is distinct from Moët's standard visitor experience.

**The Grower-Producers**

Alongside the grandes maisons, the Champagne region has an extraordinary community of grower-producers — vignerons who grow their own grapes and make their own wine, often on 1–3 hectares. FFGR Belgium arranges visits to Chartogne-Taillet (Merfy), Egly-Ouriet (Ambonnay), and Pierre Péters (Le Mesnil-sur-Oger) — three of the most sought-after addresses in the appellation.

**Overnight at Royal Champagne**

For day-plus programmes, FFGR Belgium uses the Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa in Champillon — a Relais & Châteaux property with panoramic vineyard views and a Michelin-starred restaurant. Return to Brussels the following morning.
