A bespoke week in Belgium by private Rolls-Royce — royal museums, Michelin dining, castle stays, and a curated art and heritage programme.
A week in Belgium, properly curated, constitutes one of the most rewarding luxury cultural programmes in Europe. The density of exceptional museums, Michelin restaurants, preserved medieval cities, and privately accessible châteaux within a country the size of Maryland creates an itinerary that genuinely rivals anything France or Italy can offer in the same time frame — and does so without the tourist saturation that has made parts of Paris and Tuscany more endurance test than pleasure.
Day 1 — Brussels: arrival, hotel check-in (Sofitel Brussels Le Louise or Hotel Le Plaza), afternoon at the Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts (the early Flemish primitives — Van der Weyden's The Weeping Woman, Brueghel the Elder's The Fall of Icarus), evening at Comme Chez Soi (pre-booking essential, 3-4 months).
Day 2 — Brussels Art Nouveau: Victor Horta's city — the Hôtel Tassel (first Art Nouveau building, 1892, exterior viewing), the Horta Museum (the architect's own house, fully preserved interior), the Palais des Beaux-Arts by Van de Velde, and the Sablon antique circuit (Wittamer chocolates, gallery openings on Saturdays). Dinner at Bon Bon (Uccle, 2 stars).
Day 3 — Ghent: 50-minute private chauffeur from Brussels. The Van Eyck Altarpiece at Sint-Baafskathedraal with private early-morning access before public opening. Design Museum Gent. Afternoon canal circuit. Dinner at Michiel (1 star). Return to Brussels.
Day 4 — Bruges: 65-minute private chauffeur. The Groeningemuseum (van Eyck, Memling), private Bruges Zot brewery cellar access, lunch at Den Gouden Harynck (1 star, reservation essential 4 weeks). Afternoon at the Gruuthuuse Museum (restored 2019 — the most complete collection of Flemish decorative arts outside Brussels). Return via Ghent for evening drinks.
Day 5 — Ardennes: 2-hour private chauffeur to the Ardennes. Château de Bouillon, Durbuy medieval village, lunch at a trout auberge in the Ourthe valley. Optional: Château de Modave private visit with castle interior access. Return via Namur Citadelle at sunset.
Day 6 — Antwerp: private chauffeur 45 minutes. The MAS (Museum aan de Stroom — rooftop view over the Port of Antwerp and Scheldt), the Rubenshuis (Peter Paul Rubens' own house and studio, remarkably preserved), KMSKA (Royal Museum of Fine Arts, recently reopened — one of the finest Flemish collection displays in Europe), Diamond District for serious jewellery clients. Dinner at The Jane (2 stars, in a converted military chapel by Nick Bril).
Day 7 — Knokke Coast: private chauffeur 90 minutes. The Zoute art gallery circuit (Ronny Van De Velde Gallery, private previews), lunch at Sel Gris (2 stars), afternoon at the beach, return to Brussels for final evening. Dinner at Villa Lorraine (1 star, Bois de la Cambre — the most beautiful restaurant setting in Brussels).
