Waterloo is 18 kilometres from Brussels. FFGR Belgium offers private battlefield circuits with historian accompaniment, from the Butte du Lion to the Belle Alliance inn.
The Waterloo battlefield is 18 kilometres south of Brussels on the N5 — 25 minutes by private chauffeur. On 18 June 1815, the engagement that ended Napoleon's Hundred Days reshaped European history permanently.
The circuit: the Butte du Lion (226 steps, panoramic view), the Mémorial de Waterloo 1815 museum (underground, 4D cinema, 400+ artefacts), the Panorama de Waterloo (110-metre-diameter circular painting from 1912), the Hougoumont farm (the pivotal British Guards position, now restored), and the Belle Alliance inn (where Wellington and Blücher met after the battle).
FFGR Belgium historian service: FFGR Belgium can arrange a specialist military historian to accompany the circuit — visiting sites in tactical sequence with period maps and accounts. Requires 1-2 weeks advance booking.
Half-day circuit with historian: depart Brussels 09:30, arrive Butte du Lion 10:00, complete main sites, lunch at La Sucrerie de Waterloo, return Brussels 15:00.
Recommended vehicles: Rolls-Royce Ghost or Mercedes V-Class for groups of 4-6.
