Brussels to Monaco: The Grand Tour Revisited

Over 1,200 km through France's finest countryside. How FFGR Belgium and FFGR Monaco deliver the definitive overland journey to the Principality.

The Brussels-to-Monaco overland itinerary is one of the Grand Tour's great routes, largely forgotten in the age of private aviation but experiencing a quiet renaissance among clients who have rediscovered the pleasure of a well-driven journey. FFGR Belgium, in partnership with FFGR Monaco, offers this route in a form that leaves nothing to improvisation.

The distance is approximately 1,250 kilometres. Driven without intermediate stops, it requires 11 to 12 hours. But the journey is not designed to be driven without stops — that is the commercial service. The FFGR version is designed as a two-day programme, with an overnight in one of three recommended addresses in Burgundy or the Rhône Valley.

Day One departs Brussels in the morning. The route passes through the Champagne region — Reims, if time permits, for a private cellar visit at one of the Grande Marque houses — and then south through Burgundy. The village of Beaune is the natural overnight point: the Hôtel-Dieu, the wine routes of the Côte d'Or, and the private cellars of négociants who supply our clients' personal cellars. Dinner at La Côte Saint-Jacques in Joigny, or a private table arranged in a domaine.

Day Two continues south through the Rhône corridor, climbs the Alpes-Maritimes, and arrives in Monaco in the afternoon. The arrival sequence is coordinated with FFGR Monaco's reception team: building access, suite keys, vehicle transfer to the Principality's garage network.

Alternatively, for clients departing Monaco after an event — the Grand Prix, the International Circus Festival, a private occasion — the northbound route can be structured identically, with the FFGR Monaco team handling the Monaco departure.

The vehicle for this journey is typically the Rolls-Royce Phantom or Bentley Flying Spur — both capable of completing 1,250 kilometres in a state of complete comfort. Luggage capacity for extended travel is addressed through a coordinating support vehicle where required.
